Provokers Will Face Harsh Punishment

Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- The south Korean military Wednesday fabricated a shelling incident near Yonphyong Island and is now trying to blame the DPRK for it.

The fabrication is touching off indignation among the Korean people.

Kim Pok Man, a department director of the Ministry of Light Industry, told KCNA:

I am indignant at the military provocation near Yonphyong Island like last year's.

Tideland reclamation is now going on around Ryongmae Islet in South Hwanghae Province, opposite to Yonphyong Island.

Since the project has been already known by media, the south side must know that frequent bursting sounds from around Ryongmae Islet are blasting sounds.

But they fired shells towards the north, alleging that a blasting was a shelling.

The incident was apparently motivated by their ill-intentioned bid to chill the atmosphere of dialogue maturing in and around the Korean peninsula and impede the improvement of north-south relations.

The criminal intention deserves denunciation from all the Koreans and international community.

They should clearly understand the might of the Korean army and civilians, closely rallied around leader Kim Jong Il.

We would push ahead with the tideland reclamation, regardless of their reckless moves.

A worker of the Pyongyang Automation Instrument Factory, Jon Mun Chol, said:

The south Korean military is alleging that the north asserts itself over the incident. But the allegation is nothing but a foolish attempt to cover up the truth of the incident.

They kicked up another anti-DPRK row without confirming what happened, though up-to-date monitoring devices are apparently available for them.

What they really seek is to incite an atmosphere of confrontation with the north through faked-up "spying case" and "assassination plot" in south Korea, justify the Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercise and make an excuse to start a war against the north.

The fact clearly shows that with the south Korean bellicose forces left intact, it is hard to expect improved relations between the north and the south and any progress in the peace and denuclearization process of the Korean peninsula.

If they persistently seek confrontation and war against the north, they will not escape from a stern punishment by the nation.

The U.S. is also responsible for the incident as it has egged the south Korean military on to reckless military provocations against the DPRK, while frequently staging joint military exercises with south Korea under the war scenario "CONPLAN 5029".

If the U.S. does not want to see the situation getting worse, it should immediately cancel the planned Ulji Freedom Guardian to show the international community its sincerity concerning dialogue and peace.
