Application of Tuition-free Program to Students of Korean Schools in Japan Demanded

Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Nam Ju Hyon, representative of the Liaison Council of Mothers' Societies of Korean Schools, and members of Mothers' Society of Korean Junior High Schools in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture Thursday visited the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. They called for the immediate and equal application of the tuition waiver program for senior high schools to the students of Korean schools.

They expressed their resentment against the Japanese authorities for having not yet included the Korean schools only in the program, faulting with the contents of education.

The Japanese citizens as well as the Koreans in Japan have waged actions for the immediate application of the program to the Korean schools, they said, and went on:

This measure taken by the Japanese government against the Korean residents reminds one of the maltreatment in the period of the Japanese imperialists' rule.

We can no longer tolerate the continuous persecution of the students of Korean schools, they said, vowing to continue struggle until the discrimination policy toward the Korean schools is withdrawn.

They handed a letter of request to the prime minister and the minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
