Typhoon-9 Brings Strong Wind, Heavy Rain to DPRK

Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Strong wind and heavy rain, triggered by typhoon-9, swept some areas of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

10 to 15 m/s wind was observed in South Phyongan, South and North Hwanghae and Kangwon provinces between Sunday night and Monday.

In particular, the wind blew 20 m/s in Onchon County of Nampho City, 19 m/s in Samsok District of Pyongyang and Jangphung County of Kaesong City, 18 m/s in Sariwon City and Sohung County of North Hwanghae Province, Ongjin, Yonan, Kangryong, Samchon and Pongchon counties of South Hwanghae Province and 17 m/s in Haeju City, Paechon, Ryongyon and Chongdan counties of South Hwanghae Province.

From 21:00 Sunday to 12:00 Tuesday, above 100 mm rainfalls hit nearly 20 areas of the country. It rained 170 mm, 132 mm and 128 mm respectively in Sinchon, Pyoksong and Sinwon counties, South Hwanghae Province, 126 mm in Rinsan County, North Hwanghae Province, 156 mm, 119 mm and 117 mm respectively in Kusong City, Chonma and Tongchang counties, North Phyongan Province, 125 mm in Songwon County, Jagang Province, 115 mm and 114 mm respectively in Sudong District and Pujon County, South Hamgyong Province.

Relief activities are now under way in the afflicted areas.
