Up-and-coming Woman Marathoner

Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Kim Kum Ok, a 23-year-old Korean girl, won the women's marathon race of the 5th Military World Games held in Brazil in July.

Her record was two hours, 35 minutes and 28 seconds.

Back home, she told KCNA that she ran with courage and self-confidence with which leader Kim Jong Il inspired Korean athletes.

After graduating from Mangyongdae District Juvenile Sports School, she has distinguished herself in international field and track tournaments.

She won the 10th and 11th Asian Marathon Championships and the women's half marathon race of the 24th Universiad.
