Economic Development of Asia Will Not Be Smooth: Radio

Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- Asia may be as rich and prosperous as Europe in the mid-21st century, said Voice of Russia.

According to a report made by experts of the Asian Development Bank, the total output value of the Asian countries will increase ten times in 2050 compared with 2010. The Asian continent's share will surpass a half in the world economy. National income will reach the present level of Europe.

The problems threatening the Asian continent's development should be solved to this end, the radio said, adding:

Obstacles standing in the way of the continent's development are social tension and corruption becoming worse due to the rich getting richer and the poor poorer.

Corruption is prevalent in many Asian nations.

The environmental problem is also serious.

Asian countries should satisfy the need of increasing population, but their limited resources are an objective factor impeding the economic growth.

President of the Russian Finance Group Bank Andrei Nechyayev said, "It is hard to say the Asian countries are unified in the economic aspect. They are quite different from each other, but, generally speaking, the Asian continent has a strong competitive power".

The rapporteurs are of the view that it is necessary for Asian nations' stable development to eliminate poverty, promote business activities and develop advanced science and technology.

Asia's road to a "golden age" will be not smooth.
