Downpour Caused by Typhoon-9

Pyongyang, August 8 (KCNA) -- It heavily rained in different areas of Korea today, with typhoon-9 of 960 hpa of central atmospheric pressure moving from the West Sea of Korea at the speed of 28 km/h.

The rainfall registered 125 mm in Sinchon County, South Hwanghae Province, 108 mm and 100 mm in Rinsan and Sohung counties of North Hwanghae Province and 105 mm in Sudong District of South Hamgyong Province from 00:00 to 18:00.

There was downpour of over 50 mm in Sudong District from 06:00 to 09:00, in Sinchon County from 09:00 to 12:00 and in Rinsan and Sohung counties from 12:00 to 15:00.

According to information released by the Central Meteorological Research Institute, typhoon which reached the central West Sea of Korea (38.4 degrees north latitude and 124.2 degrees east longitude) as of 15:00 is expected to affect Korea till August 9.

It is, therefore, foreseen that it will rain 40-70 mm in North and South Phyongan and Jagang provinces, over 100 mm in some parts of those provinces, and 30-50 mm in Pyongyang, Kangwon Province and other areas, over 70 mm in some areas.

It is foreseen that the typhoon will reach the land of China at 03:00 on August 9 and get weak to be low atmospheric pressure.
