U.S. Seeks Nuke Deployment in Japan in 1950s

Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- It was disclosed by a document on Thursday that the U.S. mapped out a policy of deploying nuclear weapons in Japan after calming down the anti-nuclear feelings of the Japanese people in the 1950s.

The U.S. document suggested putting emphasis on a peaceful use of atomic energy only at that time, with no mention of deployment of nuclear weapons, in order to pull down the A-bomb victim's mental barrier standing in the way of the U.S. nuclear strategy.

The document revealed that the U.S. sought the deployment of nuclear weapons in Japan through atomic cooperation which started in earnest in 1954.
