Suppression of Media Persons Protested in S. Korea

Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The Internet Journalists Association of south Korea in a statement on July 27 denounced the Intelligence Service for its crackdown on press activities for reunification.

The IS searched the house and office of the chief editor of magazine Minjok 21, claiming that he was "involved in the Iljin Association under instructions of the north," the statement said.

Since its birth the magazine has conducted legitimate press activities for peaceful reunification of the south and the north in the spirit of national reconciliation and cooperation, it noted.

The recent suppression is a planned and unprecedented deed of seriously violating freedom of speech, the statement charged.

Accusations against the IS's crackdown on media are growing stronger from among different circles, it said, demanding that the authorities stop at once such moves of violating the rights of media organizations and journalists.
