Three Principles of Korean Reunification
Pyongyang, July 14 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il published a celebrated work "Let Us Struggle Resolutely to Implement the Three Principles of National Reunification" on July 14, Juche 61 (1972.)

At that time not only all the Koreans but governments, political parties and public organizations of other countries and international organizations fully supported the July 4 joint statement adopted between the north and the south of Korea, the keynote of which is the three principles of national reunification -- independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity.

But the then south Korean authorities, who had agreed with the three principles, changed their position. They arrested and even killed pro-reunification people, alleging that the U.S. forces in south Korea were not outside forces and that confrontation without dialogue turned into confrontation with dialogue.

By publishing the work, Kim Jong Il accused them of refusing to implement the joint statement.

He also gave comprehensive answers to such theoretical and practical matters of implementing the three principles as taking substantial measures to relax the acute military situation and remove the source of a war on the Korean Peninsula and achieving great national unity, irrespective of difference in thought, ideology and social system.

The three principles have displayed its great influence as guidelines for national reunification under the leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Through the effort for implementing the principles, pro-reunification organizations in the north, south and abroad have joined hands and conducted activities for the country's reunification. The Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification and the Pan-national Alliance of Youth and Students for Korea's Reunification were also formed.

In particular, the June 15 joint declaration based on the three principles was adopted at the historic north-south summit in Pyongyang, the first of its kind since the division of Korea, to provide the nation with a landmark of reunification.

The declaration ushered in a new era of reconciliation and cooperation between the two parts of Korea and led to the adoption of the October 4 declaration to be entailed by events signal in the north-south relations and in the effort for national reunification.

Now, however, the present south Korean regime is totally negating the three principles and joint declarations, while pursuing policies of pro-U.S. flunkeyism and confrontation with the north.
