Pyongyangji Telling History of Pyongyang
Pyongyang, July 7 (KCNA) -- Pyongyangji (Pyongyang Review), brought out in the late 16th century, is one of the Korean nation's precious heritages telling the history of Pyongyang.

It was compiled by Yun Tu Su (1533-1601), governor of Phyongan Province and Pyongyang.

It consists of 32 parts, including history, forts, customs, beauty spots, shrines, government offices and schools.

The history part says that Pyongyang had been the capital city since the period of Tangun Korea and it had also been called Sogyong or Ryugyong.

The fort part gives a detailed introduction of the Walled City of Pyongyang, the wall in Mt. Taesong and other walls and forts, while the beauty spot part introduces places of superb scenic beauty in Pyongyang like the Ulmil Pavilion, Rungna Islet and Chongryu Cliff.

The book also deals with cereals, animals and plants in Pyongyang and famous figures like Ulji Mun Dok and On Tal.

Pyongyangji, one of the typical ancient books introducing Korean towns, serves as a valuable thing in studying the time-honored history and development of Pyongyang.
