US Forces Criticized for Concealing Burial of Toxic Chemicals in S. Korea
Pyongyang, July 2 (KCNA) -- The U.S. imperialist aggression forces in south Korea was disclosed to have concealed the environmental pollution in their military base in Waegwan, Chilgok County, North Kyongsang Province, according to Internet broadcasting service "Voice of People" on June 28.

This was disclosed in a report submitted to the U.S. military base in Taegu by the U.S. engineering corps in February.

According to the report, a hole 25 m in length, 14 m in width and 6 m in depth was found in 2004 to contain poisonous chemical material in the military base in Waegwan and the examination of soil there proved that it was contaminated by carcinogenic material.

Dioxin, toxic component of defoliant, was also detected, the report said.

A lawmaker from the Democratic Labor Party, disclosing the report on June 27, said the size of the hole is almost the same as what witnesses mentioned in their testimonies. It is likely that the toxic chemical material still remains buried in the place.
