S. Korea: Stop to Suppression of Youth Organization Urged
Pyongyang, June 30 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Youth Solidarity issued a statement on June 27 demanding that the security authorities stop the suppression of the progressive youth organization.

The statement recalled that on June 23 the security investigation group of the Kangwon District Police Agency and the Kangwon Branch of the Intelligence Service searched houses of three persons including the former chairman of the Kangrung Youth Society on charges of the violation of the "National Security Law" and confiscated computers, documents, books, etc.

The security authorities have persistently resorted to the wholesale suppression of members of youth organizations of south Korean Kangwon Province, North Chungchong Province and Jeju Island after labeling the past activities of the Council of Youth Organizations (Hanchong) as "ones benefiting the enemy", the statement charged.

Hanchong was a massive youth organization built by more than 50 youth organizations across south Korea active for democratization of society and reunification, it held.

Intolerable is the suppression of the just activities on the strength of the NSL which should have been already abolished, it said, noting that the recent case was part of the repressive campaign to tide over the regime's crisis.

The statement called upon young people across south Korea to fight it out to get the NSL abolished and realize democracy in solidarity with many citizens.
