Violence against S. Korean Workers Slammed
Pyongyang, June 29 (KCNA) -- The chairman of the south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the chairman of the Metal Trade Union, lawyers and others held a press conference at the "National Assembly" on June 24 denouncing the brutal violence committed against workers of the Yusong Enterprise.

Speakers at the press conference accused the Yusong Enterprise side of illegally closing a shop and hurling gangsters into assaulting the workers who had been on a protest action.

When gangsters beat the workers with clubs, the police did not take any step against this violence but unhesitatingly sprayed tear gas on them, they charged.

The police's violence left more than 10 workers wounded, they noted, labeling the Yusong Enterprise side and police's violence totally illegal acts.

That day representatives of labor movement organizations and social activists held a press conference at a press center to publish a declaration on the situation. Noting that nothing could be expected from the authorities any longer as they are infringing upon the right of the people to live through resolution and layoff, expansion of part-time jobs and violence, they declared they would take the lead in the struggle for winning the vital rights.
