Application of Tuition-waiver Program for Korean Schools in Japan Urged
Pyongyang, June 28 (KCNA) -- A meeting in Tokyo on June 23 called for the application of the tuition-waiver program to the Korean schools in Japan.

Attendants included members of the Liaison Council Rejecting the Exclusion of Korean Schools from Tuition-waiver Program and officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan. The meeting was also attended by other Koreans in Japan, teachers of Korean High School, students and their parents, and south Korean artistes active for aiding Korean schools.

Kazuo Hasegawa, representative of the Liaison Council, said at the meeting that the Japanese government excluded the Korean schools from the tuition-waiver program even though it said the program is applicable to the students of all the schools in Japan, irrespective of political and diplomatic issues. He described it as a clear manifestation of national discrimination.

He called for carrying on the actions till the program is applied to the Korean schools.

The speakers said they would fight it out with more Japanese civic organizations and Koreans in Japan involved.

Prior to the meeting, the teachers of Korean High School and those concerned called at the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and demanded an immediate re-start of the procedures for the application of the program.
