Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- A Russian singer received an enthusiastic applause from the audience by singing the Korean song "Girls Riding on Galloping Steeds" in the 27th April Spring Friendship Art Festival held in Pyongyang this year.

The song mirrors the worthwhile life of girls making a good job of their work.

It, one of the popular songs in Korea, is also well known to south Korean people, overseas Koreans and foreigners.

The song was written by Ri Kwang Suk, a machine operator at the Sinuiju Cosmetics Factory.

Born into a worker's family as eldest daughter, she enjoyed the 11-year compulsory education.

She, with a literary bent, won the "Our Classroom" literary prize in her school days.

After graduating from secondary school, she began working with the factory, while writing poems in her spare hours.

Leader Kim Jong Il, when visiting the exhibition of educational materials held to mark the 8th Congress of the League of Socialist Working Youth in February Juche 82 (1993), read her works and extended thanks to her.

Encouraged by his thanks, she has continued writing fine works.
