Guidelines for Peace, Reunification of Korea
Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- June 15 marks the anniversary of a joint declaration adopted at a summit between the north and the south of Korea.

The historic declaration and the program for its implementation -- the October 4 declaration -- serve as guidelines for the reunification, peace and prosperity of the Korean peninsula.

The June 15 declaration calls for solving the issue of the country's reunification in an independent way with concerted efforts of the Korean people.

The October 4 declaration reaffirms the spirit of national independence and calls on the north and the south to closely cooperate with each other for an end to hostile military relations between the two sides and for detente and peace of the peninsula.

In the October 4 declaration the two sides share the understanding of the need for terminating the existing armistice system and setting up a durable peace regime, and agree to cooperate with each other to this end.

Both sides also agree to turn the West Sea of Korea into pacific waters to prevent military conflicts and ensure a durable peace between the two sides.

All the Koreans in the north, south and overseas aspire after peace and reunification of the country.

It is only outside forces and the south Korean conservatives that seek confrontation and war on the Korean peninsula.

If the north and the south faithfully implement peace proposals contained in the two declarations, the peace and security of the peninsula will surely be achieved.
