GNP Accused of Defiling Candlelight Actions
Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- The Solidarity for Democracy, People's Life, Peaceful Reunification and Sovereignty of south Korea in a statement on June 9 denounced the "Grand National Party" for defiling the candlelight actions of university students and people from all walks of life for the settlement of the registration fee.

The statement said that a lawmaker from the GNP let loose a string of balderdash that those forces who participated in the candlelight demonstrations against the import of American beef in 2008 are conducting "agitation under the pretext of registration fee" after joining students.

This proves that he is utterly ignorant of what is going on in the world, it noted, adding that angry university students and people from all walks of life are turning out in the streets with candlelights in hands because Lee Myung Bak and the GNP are again pulling the wool over the eyes of the people without fulfilling their commitment to halve the registration fee.

If the GNP feels afraid of the candlelight actions, it should pass a bill on the settlement of the registration fee issue through the "National Assembly" at once, drop the policy for reducing taxes of the rich and stop the projects for improving the four large rivers, it held.

It urged the GNP and the Lee Myung Bak "government" to abandon at once the bad habit of defiling the people who are holding candlelights and meet the people's demand for halving the registration fee.
