Rodong Sinmun Calls for National Independence
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- It is 85 years since the Korean people waged the June 10 Independence Movement in massive protest against the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule.

Rodong Sinmun Saturday devotes a by-lined article to this anniversary.

The movement was an eruption of the pent-up resentment and grudge of the Koreans against the colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists and a manifestation of their patriotic will to retake the usurped national sovereignty at the cost of blood, the article notes, and goes on:

Much water has flown under the bridge since the movement but south Korea is still under the foreign military occupation and domination. This deplorable reality clearly proves that national independence serves as a banner for the life and struggle of the Koreans.

The south Korea-Japan military nexus is being tightened as the days go by under the backstage wire-pulling of the U.S. and this is gravely threatening the peace on the Korean peninsula and escalating the inter-Korean confrontation.

The Lee Myung Bak group of traitors provoked the "Cheonan" and Yonphyong Island incidents, pushing the situation on the peninsula to a touch-and-go situation. Some days ago, it committed such most hideous provocation in history as hurting the supreme dignity of the DPRK.

National independence and dependence on outside forces can never go together.

If the traitors subservient to outside forces are allowed to remain within the nation, it is bound to suffer unimaginable disasters. The Korean people clearly experienced this through the distress-torn past.

The Lee Myung Bak group of traitors sold off the nation's interests to outside forces, kowtowing to its masters the U.S. and Japan, and is making desperate efforts to do harm to compatriots in league with them. The Korean nation can never achieve complete sovereignty as long as this group is allowed to stay in office.
