UN Human Rights Council Urges Abrogation of SL
Pyongyang, June 11 (KCNA) -- The 17th meeting of the UN Human Rights Council criticized on June 3 the suppression of the freedom of expression in south Korea.

A special rapporteur, when discussing a report on promoting the protection of freedom of expression, referred to his visit to south Korea last year. He deplored the reality in south Korea where a mere wrong use of a word or expression is liable to imprisonment though it professes "democracy" and "freedom."

He was stunned by the existence of a law which legalizes the violation of freedom of expression in south Korea.

He urged south Korea not to incriminate the freedom of expression, ensure the freedom of assembly and repeal the "Security Law."

Amnesty International expressed sympathy with the report and demanded an immediate repeal of the evil laws violating human rights.

Representatives of various organizations in south Korea derided the "government" which harshly suppresses the freedom of expression while asserting that the freedom of expression and peaceful assembly is a "precondition for democracy."
