Anniversary of June 10 Independence Movement Observed
Pyongyang, June 10 (KCNA) -- Japan should pay a very high price for the crimes committed against the Korean people at an early date, urges Rodong Sinmun in an article dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Anti-Japanese June 10 Independence Movement.

The article goes on:

The movement was an eruption of the pent-up resentment and grudge of the Koreans against the harsh colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists and a mass anti-Japanese patriotic struggle to retake the usurped country and establish national sovereignty.

The Japanese imperialists brutally brandished swords against peaceable demonstrators and fired bullets and shells at them, killing many of them and arresting and detaining them.

The Japanese imperialists' brutal suppression of the participants in the movement was a typical example of their unprecedented mass killings of Koreans as it was part of their policy for exterminating the nation.

According to the books and confidential documents published by the Japanese imperialists, more than one million Korean people were killed during their colonial rule. This means one out of 20 Koreans was killed by the Japanese imperialists at that time.

Their brutal crackdown and massacre were the hideous state-sponsored crimes committed by Japan which can never be justified, pardoned and written off.

Minju Joson Friday says in a by-lined article that the Japanese reactionaries are working hard to whitewash their past wrongdoings, shirk off the responsibility for redressing them and realize their wild ambition to stage a comeback to Korea. This bespeaks that they are a group of corrupt hooligans bereft of even elementary morality and the criminals to be condemned by the international community.
