KCU Greets Its Anniversary
Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- June 6 marks the 65th anniversary of the Korean Children's Union (KCU).

On this occasion, the KCU members are looking back upon the great feats President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il performed for the rising generation.

In the early period of his revolutionary activities, the President organized the Saenal Children's Union. He formed a children's union in the days of the anti-Japanese armed struggle and had schools built for children in guerrilla zones.

After the country's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, he put the issue of pencil on the agenda at the first session of the Provisional People's Committee of North Korea and took measures to build bereaved children's schools and orphanages in the Fatherland Liberation War (1950-1953) and schoolchildren's palaces, halls and camps in the post-war period.

He appreciated New Year performances given by children every year in his lifetime. In his last days of life, he had a picture taken with the participants in the 5th KCU Congress.

Leader Kim Jong Il, in his school days, put forth the slogan "Let's Learn for Korea" to encourage schoolchildren to study hard.

He clearly indicated the way to be followed by KCU along with the developing revolution and sent autographic replies to children's letters.

Under the care of the leader, the Korean schoolchildren are preparing themselves to carry forward the Songun (military-first) revolution.
