DPRK's Effort for Increasing Forest Resources
Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has channeled much effort into preserving the ecosystem of forests and increasing the forest resources.

The DPRK government shaped a policy of turning the country into a thick woodland and greenery and is encouraging all the people to take part in the campaign for its implementation.

The country has many nurseries in the capital and local areas and cultivates saplings of good species in an intensive, industrial and advanced way.

Two months every year, one in spring and one in autumn, are periods of the general mobilization for land management, during which forests covering more than 100,000 hectares are created throughout the country.

Deep attention has also been paid to preventing forest fire and spread of harmful insects.

As regards afforestation, the government closely cooperates with international organizations like the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the World Food Programme and the European Union Programme Support.

A report on the Korean environmental condition was released in Pyongyang to mark the World Environment Day, June 5. A quiz, painting contest and other events concerning environment took place in Pyongyang and local areas in conformity with this year's theme "Forests: Nature at Your Service".
