S. Korea's Report on Operation for Spraying Defoliant Opened to Public
Pyongyang, June 6 (KCNA) -- A lawmaker of south Korea on June 3 opened to the public a report of the puppet military authorities on the operation for spraying defoliant carried out late in the 1960s, the south Korean Yonhap News reported.

He said the report confirmed the fact that the south Korean army and the U.S. forces sprayed three kinds of defoliant in 6,840 hectares of the Demilitarized Zone of south Korea in 1968 and 1969 and the amount of the defoliant was 51 times that published by the Defense Ministry in 1999.

Before the spraying operation a test was made for one week from October 9, 1967 and later the U.S. military advisory group provided technical support to the operation and supervised it and troops of the south Korean army took charge of spraying defoliant, he said, adding: This is a proof that the operation was conducted on the basis of thorough preparations.

He went on: A particular mention should be made of the fact that platoons of the 56th chemical company of the First Army Corps whose main duty was to detoxify were ordered to work in the Third, Fifth and Sixth Corps which had been mobilized for the operation. This fact indicates that the military authorities knew in advance that the substance sprayed was defoliant.
