Investigation into US Forces' Environmental Pollution Called for in S. Korea
Pyongyang, June 5 (KCNA) -- Political parties and civic and public organizations in Pusan, south Korea held a press conference on June 1 at which they called for making a thoroughgoing investigation into the environmental pollution by the U.S. forces present in south Korea.

In the press conference speakers said that it has been disclosed one after another that the U.S. forces buried defoliant and various other kinds of chemicals not only in their base in Waegwan but in other bases and scrapped even nuclear weapons.

These facts indicate the serious environmental pollution in the U.S. military bases across south Korea and the military bases to be transferred by the U.S. forces to it, they noted.

They deplored that the soil and underground water around the dumping ground for the waste thrown by the U.S. forces in Pusan, in particular, are seriously contaminated by heavy metals, varieties of oil and carcinogenic materials, etc., fatally affecting human bodies.

They demanded the authorities make an immediate investigation into the environmental pollution by the U.S. forces and urge them to own responsibility for it.
