In the 8th World Cup held in 1966 the DPRK proceeded to the quarterfinals, striking the world with wonder.

Secretary General of the DPRK Football Association Kim Jong Man said in an interview with KCNA:

DPRK girls took the title at the 3rd FIFA U-20 World Championship, 2008 FIFA U-17 World Cup and 2001, 2003 and 2008 Asian Football Championships.

Last year, DPRK boys won the AFC Challenger Cup, 4-nation soccer tournament held in Qatar, Vietnam Football Association Cup, Under-19 and Under-16 Asian Football Championships.

A regular football training system is working well in the country under the care of the Workers' Party and the government.

Primary and secondary schools and juvenile sports schools throughout the country are training many reserve footballers.
