Ground-breaking Ceremony Held for Construction of Mansudae Area
Pyongyang, May 22 (KCNA) -- A ground-breaking ceremony was held on the spot Sunday for building Mansudae area on the best level on the occasion of the centenary of birth of President Kim Il Sung.

The successful construction of modern apartment houses and monumental edifices in Mansudae area where the statue of the President stands as required by the new century and the conversion of the area around it into a huge park would bring about big progress in turning Pyongyang into a world-class city and a magnificent city for people.

Present there were Choe Yong Rim, Kim Yong Chun and other senior officials and officials of ministries and national institutions and in Pyongyang and tens of thousands of builders.

Premier Choe Yong Rim in his report said that leader Kim Jong Il initiated the above-said construction project and took revolutionary measures for undertaking the project ranging from its design to the provision of manpower for the project and supply of materials.

He called on the officials and builders to fully meet the requirements of designing and construction and its methods under the slogan "Let Us Take Responsibility for the Safety of the Projects and Guarantee Their Absolute Quality for All Eternity!" and thus ensure the highest quality of all structures.

He also called upon all officials and builders to become honorable victors in the general offensive for carrying out the above-said project under the guidance of the great party, holding aloft the slogan "When Korea is Determined, It Can Do Anything!"

Yang In Guk, director of the Capital Construction Bureau, Kim Thae Bong, minister of Metal Industry, and Ho Song Gil, manager of the Sangwon Cement Complex, in their speeches evinced their determination to contribute to completing ahead of schedule the most gigantic and worthwhile project in the history of city construction in terms of its style and contents and period of the construction.
