Biodiversity Protection in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- The DPRK government has paid close attention to the protection of biodiversity, said an official of the Ministry of Land and Environmental Conservation.

Kim Kwang Ju, a section chief of the ministry, said in an interview with KCNA on Saturday, a day before the World Day of Biological Diversity:

There are hundreds of nature reserves in the country to protect ecological environment.

The country has a law on the protection of nature reserves. All provinces, cities and counties have sanctuaries of wild animals and conduct information activities for protecting them.

A balanced forestry-agriculture management technology has been applied to mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, the government has taken necessary measures to minimize biodiversity loss, while cooperating with international organizations to this end.

It has some of what should be protected included in the UNDP's midterm plan (2011-2015).
