Actions to Punish Present Regime Called for in S. Korea
Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Democratic Labor Party of south Korea issued a commentary on May 18 on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Kwangju Popular Uprising. It called for intensifying the actions for punishing the present regime for going against the times by inheriting the spirit of the participants in the May 18 resistance.

The Kwangju popular resistance was an eruption of the resentment of the people at the "Yusin" system which turned south Korea into a theatre of fascist dictatorship and tyrannical rule and a manifestation of their ardent desire for independence, democracy and reunification, the commentary said, and continued:

The resistance taught the truth of history that social democracy and independent reunification of the nation are not something to be presented by anyone but should be won through a struggle.

31 years have passed since the resistance, but the present regime has allowed the arch criminals who murdered people to be at large and brought the inter-Korean relations which favorably developed once back to those in the past era of confrontation, it charged.
