Self-baking Electrode Producing Technology Developed
Pyongyang, May 12 (KCNA) -- Scientists, technicians and workers in the field of metal industry of the DPRK developed the new technology of producing self-baking electrode by use of anthracite found in abundance in the country as its principal raw material and widely applied it to production.

This is another signal turn in the development of metallurgical industry.

The technicians of the Puryong Alloy Iron Works conceived a unique technology of producing Korean style electrode, which can replace self-baking electrode made by use of coke and graphite, on the basis of the experience gained in the practice. As a result, they succeeded in developing the new technology of producing self-baking electrode with anthracite as basic raw material without going through heat treatment and the even mixing of materials by heat and mechanical processing.

The above-said technology helps ensure very high economic profitability, prevent harmfulness and significantly improve working conditions.

The processes which had been considered as essential for the production of self-baking electrode are no longer necessary, making the production process simple.

The introduction of this technology made it possible to boost the productivity 8 to 10 times without using the electricity and fuel consumed for the heat treatment and the even material mixing.

The above-said works is boosting the production by using the self-baking electrode made by itself for furnaces with various capacities.

The officials and workers of the Posan Iron Works completely removed the existing production processes and applied the above-said method into production.

The Chongjin Steel Works solved scientific and technological issues including the issues of rational composition and mixing rate and additives for raising the mechanical quality of self-baking electrode and cutting down its non-resistance. A work is making brisk headway at the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex and the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex to apply the above-said technology.
