Buddhist Masses Held at Temples across Country
Pyongyang, May 10 (KCNA) -- The "celebration of the birthday of Buddha, 2555 Buddhist Era and the north-south simultaneous Buddhist masses praying for the country's reunification" simultaneously took place at temples across the country on Tuesday.

Present there were office-bearers of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Federation of Korea and its provincial, city and county committees, priests and monks of temples and believers.

Rituals were made to be followed by speeches.

The speakers called upon all the Buddhists in the north and the south and abroad to unite in Dharma-minded concord and turn out in the struggle to achieve the country's reunification under the uplifted slogan of "Let all Koreans in the north, south and abroad join efforts and bring a new phase of independent reunification!"

They also called upon all the Buddhists in the north, the south and abroad to intensify the practical actions to have the confrontation between the north and the south defused as early as possible, remove the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula, preserve the peace and actively promote dialogue and cooperation.

On the same day, a joint address of the north and the south was read out at the masses. It called for taking courageous practical actions to bring earlier the day of the country's reunification by regarding the north-south joint declarations, a reunification programme common to the nation, as a milestone of the country's reunification and pooling efforts under the banner of "By our nation itself.
