River Pothong Undergoes Improvement
Pyongyang, May 9 (KCNA) -- Dredging is going on in River Pothong in Pyongyang.

Dredgers and lighters are working near Chongryu Restaurant and Pothonggang Department Store.

The River Pothong, a tributary stream of the River Taedong, used to be overflowed in rainy season, bringing heavy damages to neighboring inhabitants, before the liberation of the country from the Japanese colonial rule.

President Kim Il Sung initiated a project for the River Pothong improvement and broke the ground first to signal the start of the project on May 21, Juche 35 (1946).

After the project, the river turned into a canal with pleasure grounds, streets and edifices built on both sides.

The river-bed dredging will help improve the environment of the river.

An organic compound fertilizer factory with dredged mud as raw material is now under construction.
