Songjin Steel Complex
Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The Songjin Steel Complex in the northern part of the DPRK has increased production of iron and steel based on domestically available fuel.

The complex has been furnished with new production processes and updated the existing ones, while introducing advanced technologies in production.

The complex has played a big role in the country's steel production since the liberation of the country from the Japanese colonial rule.

Its workers blew up the oven of first-stage iron-processing, which claimed many lives before the liberation of the country, and built an electric furnace in a short span of time. In the first half of Juche 39 (1950), they produced tens of thousands of tons of steel and rolled steel.

Afterwards, they built medium rolling and oxygen workshops, reconstructed the fireproof material workshop on an expansion basis and laid material foundations for boosting rolled steel.

When the country was in hard time in the period of "Arduous March", the complex kindled the torch of a great upsurge.

In recent years, it streamlined the steel-making processes, including the oxygen fusion and smelting processes.

The complex greatly contributes to the country's steel industry with increased production of steel, rolled steel and goods of second-stage metal-processing.
