Sports Contest for Mangyongdae Prize Closes
Pyongyang, April 29 (KCNA) -- A sports contest for Mangyongdae prize took place in Pyongyang, Nampho, Wonsan, Chongjin and other places of the DPRK from March 10 on the occasion of the Day of the Sun, the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

New national records were set in various events including weightlifting, shooting and field and track.

Men and women players of the April 25 Sports Group emerged winners in basketball, men players of the April 25 Sports Group and women players of the Pyongyang Sports Group in volleyball, men players of the Kigwancha Sports Group in baseball, women players of the Moranbong Sports Group of Pyongyang in softball, men players of the Taesongsan Sports Group and women players of the Jangsan Sports Group in the short-track speed skating event.

A closing ceremony was held at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street on Friday.

Present there were Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, Kang Nung Su, vice-premier of the Cabinet, and others.

Pak Myong Chol, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, made a closing address.
