More Facts about April 19 Popular Uprising
Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- The Society for Commemorating the Movement for Democracy of south Korea Tuesday opened a homepage on the April 19 Popular Uprising and posted on it more facts about the uprising testified to by witnesses.

They testified to the fact that the fascist dictatorial forces indiscriminately suppressed uprisers.

According to their testimonies, hooligans attacked the demonstrators' column on April 18 when the uprising was at its height.

An armed group fired at demonstrators in front of Kyongmudae the next day.

The police shot demonstrators to death and mercilessly beat those alive with clubs till they fell unconscious in Kwangju.

Also disclosed was the fact that the U.S. was directly involved in the crackdown upon the uprisers.

Kim Un Yong who was the then aide-de-camp of Song Yo Chan, martial law commander, said as follows: "There was a huddle with the U.S. over how to bring the uprising under control. Commanding officers of the U.S. 8th Army came to learn about the tendency of the s. Korean troops every day. The movement of armed forces was impossible without the approval of the U.S. forces. It was, therefore, deeply involved in the declaration of the martial law and the subsequent movement of the troops."
