Radioactive Strontium Leaks from Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant of Japan
Pyongyang, April 14 (KCNA) -- Another dangerous radioactive substance leaked from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

The Japanese government announced that radioactive strontium was detected for the first time on the soil and plants in Fukushima Prefecture more than 30 kilometers away from the crippled power plant.

The results of the analysis of soil in three places including Iidate son in Fukushima Prefecture led to the detection of strontium-89 of 260 Bq at maximum per kg of soil.

It is known that strontium is more fatal to human bodies than cesium and iodine which have been detected so far.

Some of the spent nuclear fuel rods stored in the pools of No. 4 reactor building of the power plant were confirmed to be damaged and the radioactive materials were also confirmed to be in the process of dissolution in the water in the pools after their leakage from there.

Experts said the temperature in the above-said pools rose as high as 90 degrees centigrade at one time on Wednesday, expressing concern over the fact that amounts of radioactive materials in the reactor might increase even 100,000 times the normal level to cause additional explosions.

Meanwhile, damage by radiation is on the steady increase.

The Japanese Tokyo Shimbun on April 11 reported that radioactive cesium more than 26 times the legal level was detected in Lentinus edodes cultivated in Fukushima Prefecture.

KBS of south Korea reported that minute traces of radioactive materials were detected on spinach and lettuce in Thongyong and Namhae of South Kyongsang Province and on Jeju Island.

The National Police Agency of Japan said the death toll increased to 13,392 as of 19:00 on Wednesday.

Aftershocks are going on.

Earthquake of Magnitude 5.8 rocked the coastal area of Fukushima Prefecture on Wednesday. Its epicenter was 10 km deep in the waters off the prefecture.
