Orchards in DPRK Undergo Metamorphosis
Pyongyang, April 12 (KCNA) -- Orchards in different parts of the DPRK have undergone an amazing metamorphosis in recent years.

The Ryongjon Fruit Farm in South Hamgyong Province removed its orchard on hills to a vast field and planted short apple trees. It also spruced up a room for disseminating agricultural sci-tech, fruit sorting station, stockbreeding base and other facilities.

The Kwail County Combined Fruit Farm in South Hwanghae Province increased the production of high-yield fruit saplings twice the number of the past and changed the appearance of its orchard. The farm provided good conditions for admirably raising the size and weight of each fruit by ensuring lopping in summer, thinning and other processes in a scientific and technological way and producing much quality manure.

The Taedonggang Combined Fruit Farm in Pyongyang has become one of the eleven Songun sceneries in the country.

Vast projects for increasing the capacity of the farm were carried out one after another, including land realignment for an orchard of hundreds of hectares, digging trench-style pits extending more than 4,000-ri (1,600km), setting up hundreds of thousands of props for fruit trees and planting millions of fruit trees.

After finishing on a high level the work to put the fruit production on a scientific, intensive and modern basis, the farm is pushing ahead with project for additionally building a field of hundreds of hectares for short apple trees.

The Kosan Fruit Farm in Kangwon Province, too, created a big orchard extending several hundred hectares and planted more than one million high-yield short apple trees. It also built dwelling houses.

The farm fulfilled the fruit production plan 58 percent last year and is working hard to bring good harvest this year, too.
