Flower-growing Custom of Korean People
Pyongyang, April 4 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation has a long history of flower cultivation.

There was a custom of presenting flowers as a token of love and respect in the period of the three kingdoms (Koguryo, Paekje, and Silla).

Flowers were cultivated in households in the period of Koryo kingdom and Ri Dynasty.

In summer women dyed their fingernails with pounded balsam blossoms.

Koryo people used to put flowers in vases in their houses and decorate head, cap and clothes with flowers.

In the period of the Ri Dynasty flower symbolizes love, joy, youthfulness and beauty.

The people in the period favored chrysanthemum.
