Abolition of Evil Law Urged in S. Korea
Pyongyang, April 3 (KCNA) -- South Korean lawyers held a symposium at Sogang University on March 28 to expose the draconic nature of the "law on assembly and demonstration".

Speakers deplored that it has become a common practice to brand even a press conference or one-man demonstration as illegal and holding a poster or shouting a slogan, in particular, is liable to suppression after the emergence of the present regime.

Recalling that the above-said law calls for submitting a notice to the chief of a police station in any area 48 hours before the holding of any assembly and demo and stipulates that anyone violating this or sponsoring any assembly or demonstration without getting the permission of the police is punishable by law, they declared that this provision amounts to a violation of even elementary right of the people.

They branded the law as an evil law as it allows the police to check any plan for assembly and demonstration in advance under the pretext of "ensuring security" and intensify the control over civic and public organizations.

The law should be repealed at once to ensure the freedom of assembly and demonstration, they urged.
