Japanese Government Accused of Passing History Textbooks
Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on Wednesday examined and passed all the geography textbooks and 12 kinds of textbooks for junior high schools which contain a claim to Tok Islets, according to Yonhap News of south Korea.

These textbooks misrepresent past history including the theory of "Japanese Prefecture of Imna," Japan's invasion of Korea in 1592, the Kanghwa Island Treaty, the Japanese imperialists' occupation of Korea and forcible mobilization and do not have any mention about the issue of comfort women for the Imperial Japanese Army.

This action taken by the Japanese ministry is touching off protest from the different circles of south Korea.

The Media Persons' Society of Churches of south Korea in a commentary lashed out at the Japanese authorities for going reckless in their wild ambition for territorial aggrandizement.

The Solidarity for Peace in Asia and Education in History held a press conference on the same day strongly denouncing the Japanese government's distortion of history.

The Solidarity for Protecting Tok Islets at a meeting outside the Japanese embassy in Seoul declared that the Japanese government's distortion of history is a deliberate provocation, urging an immediate expulsion of the Japanese ambassador from south Korea.
