Meeting of Workers in Coal Industry Held
Pyongyang, March 27 (KCNA) -- The meeting of workers in the coal industry took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Sunday.

Present at the meeting were senior party, army and state officials, vice-premiers, chief secretaries of provincial committees of the Workers' Party of Korea, leading officials of the party, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions, officials in the field of the coal industry, heroes, persons who were honored to be received by President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il and labor innovators.

Prior to the meeting, its participants heard the recorded speech "On Pushing Ahead with the Technical Revolution in the Coal Industry" made by Kim Il Sung at an enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK on December 1, Juche 69 (1980).

Vice-Premier Ro Tu Chol in a report referred to the immortal exploits performed by the peerlessly great men who defined the coal industry as a key industry dynamically promoting the development of the self-supporting national economy and led it wisely.

Kim Il Sung provided continuous field guidance to far and rugged coalfields all his life since he helped the coal industry take its first step right after the liberation of the country. He made sure that the national meeting of the officials in the field of the coal industry was held in the last year of his life and had a photo session with its participants.

General Secretary Kim Jong Il has put forward the coal industry as a pilot sector of the national economy and wisely led it to make an epochal turn in coal production.

Coal mines were actively put on a modern and scientific basis under the energetic leadership and deep care of Kim Jong Il and this helped lay more solid material and technical foundations for coal production and brought about a turn in the work style and attitude and ideological and mental traits of the officials and workers in the field of coal industry, the reporter said.

He called on all the officials and workers to attain without fail the goal of coal production set forth by the Party by displaying the indomitable mental power, upholding the slogan "Korea does what it is determined to do!" and thus make a positive contribution to bringing earlier building a thriving nation.

Speakers at the meeting said that they would consolidate the successes already gained at their units and conduct dynamic drive to modernize coal mines and expand the production capacity and thus make new miracles and innovations in coal production.
