Rodong Sinmun Calls for Defusing Inter-Korean Confrontation
Pyongyang, March 26 (KCNA) -- It is an urgent task for independent and peaceful reunification of the country to improve the inter-Korean relations, says Rodong Sinmun Saturday in a bylined article.

It goes on:

If the north-south relations are to improve, it is necessary, above all, to defuse the confrontation between them and realize positive dialogue.

Dialogue between the north and the south is a basic way for achieving national reconciliation, unity, peace and reunification.

It is the consistent stand of the DPRK to improve the inter-Korean relations and pave a wide avenue for peace and reunification by promoting dialogue.

Dialogue serves as driving force for improving the inter-Korean relations and achieving peace and reunification whereas a denial of dialogue amounts to a criminal act of bedeviling those relations and bringing the danger of war.

The Koreans in the north and the south desire peace, not confrontation, and aspire after reunification, not division.

The reunification movement organizations and progressives of different strata in south Korea strongly urge the authorities to come out for inter-Korean dialogue without any condition. Strong voices calling for dialogue and peace are heard among overseas Koreans, too.

The south Korean ruling forces would be well advised to face up to the trend of the times and clearly understand the wishes of the whole nation and properly approach dialogue.

Inter-Korean dialogue is by no means a gift for someone. It is a crucial issue related to the destiny of the nation and the prospect of the inter-Korean relations. Desiring dialogue means patriotism and reunification whereas the denial of it means treachery and an anti- reunification action.
