China Works on Recovering from Earthquake Damage

| Pyongyang, March 25 (KCNA) -- The Chinese party and government are directing much effort to helping people of Yingjiang County, Yunnan Province recover from the damage caused by an earthquake which hit the area on March 10 and stabilize their life. The Organizational Department of the C.C., the Communist Party allocated a million RMB.Y from the party membership fees and the Ministry of Finance 55 million RMB.Y for the rescue work. The Ministry of Civil Affairs sent 5,000 tents, 10,000 quilts and 10,000 overcoats to victims. Taking part in the rescue work are servicepersons, policemen, reserve militiamen and youth, with the help of the State Council's rescue team and Red Cross organizations. Many people have been rescued from debris and more than 8,000 people evacuated from the area. Such basic issues as food, drinking water, clothing, lodging, treatment and public order have been mainly solved in the afflicted area. About 90 percent of primary schools were reopened as of March 14. |
