Russia Bolsters Defence Capacity
Moscow, March 22 (KCNA) -- Russia is directing big efforts into increasing the defence capacity with top priority given to modernizing and bolstering the armed forces.

The Ministry of Defense worked out a plan to launch a big-scale modernization of armed equipment starting this year. According to it, the Ministry decided to purchase weapons with main emphasis on new generation air defense weapon, interceptor missile system and new-type weapons for navy.

It is also mulling buying many helicopters, fighters, warships and strategic nuclear missile submarines and conducting research and development of new generation military hardware.

The Russian strategic rocket army is planning to launch missiles with various missions such as PC-12M, PC-18 and PC-24 ten times this year.

Russia is also channeling efforts into developing high-intelligence ballistic missile using liquid propellant.

As part of its step to bolster up the navy, Russia is mulling purchasing eight strategic nuclear missile submarines and equip them with Blava.

According to the army modernization plan, the Russian air force decided to organize two or three new flying regiments equipped with Cy-35 till 2015 starting this year.

The development of new generation fighter also made brisk headway. As a result, the fifth-generation fighter T-50 made a successful test-flight early in March this year.

In the meantime, Russia deployed surface-to-air missile complex C-400 in a combined unit present in Moscow Region this February. It is planning to deploy the third surface-to-air missile regiment equipped with these missiles in the far eastern region.
