ITAR-TASS Introduces Operas of DPRK
Pyongyang, March 23 (KCNA) -- ITAR-TASS introduced on March 18 the five revolutionary operas of the DPRK created under the guidance of Kim Jong Il. It said:

Opera "The Story of a Nurse" was staged at the Pyongyang Grand Theater in the DPRK.

"Where Are You, Dear General?", a song the Koreans often sing in solo or chorus, is the theme song of the opera.

The opera tells a story about a nurse who remained faithful to the Workers' Party of Korea and President Kim Il Sung till the last moments of her life in the period of the 1950-1953 Fatherland Liberation War.

Kim Jong Il brought about a radical turn in opera, breaking the stereotyped style that had long been deterring the development of opera.

Masterpiece "The Sea of Blood" was adapted as opera under his energetic guidance to raise its curtain in July 1971.

Afterwards, he guided the creation of four other famous operas "The Story of a Nurse", "Tell O Forest", "The Flower Girl" and "Song of Mt. Kumgang". These are called the five revolutionary operas in the DPRK.
