The demonstrators protested against the government's nuclear policy in the wake of the explosions at nuclear power plants in Japan. They included members of the Social-Democratic Party, the Greens and several organizations for environmental protection, more than 60,000 people in all.

They formed a human chain from the state government building to a nuclear power plant 45 kilometers away from it. They strongly urged the authorities to close down the plant.
