Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex
Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, situated in the northeastern part of the DPRK, fulfilled its February plan, 108.6 percent in the total industrial output value and 100.2 percent in pig iron production.

At the beginning of the year the complex sent a letter to the workers throughout the country calling for accelerating the building of a thriving nation.

The complex has played an important role in the development of the country's metal industry and in the building of the self-supporting economy.

After the country's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, the workers rehabilitated in a short span of time the smelting furnaces and coke ovens destroyed by fleeing Japanese and produced more pig iron than in the period of the colonial rule.

They rebuilt the damaged factory after the Korean war and produced 270,000 tons of pig iron from the furnaces with the capacity of 190,000 tons during the great Chollima upswing.

The complex carried out expansion projects to raise the production capacity, increase the variety of rolled steel and lay foundations for the production of second-stage metal-processing goods.

It has set up a coke-free steel production system.
