Exemption from Military Service Rife among Officials in S. Korea
Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- The exemption from military service is rife among high-ranking officials of the present "government" in south Korea.

It was disclosed that the rate of exemption from military service among them is 24.1 percent or ten times that among ordinary people.

The highest rate of exemption from military service was among officials of the Fair Trade Commission under the direct control of the "prime minister," in particular, and that among agents of the Intelligence Service jumped 40 percent.

That among officials of other ministries, offices and the "National Assembly", prosecution, etc. showed more than a 10 percent growth respectively.

The "Grand National Party" set a record in this respect.

What merits a serious attention is that the tendency of exemption from military service is carried forward by high-ranking officials generation after generation.

10.3 percent of the sons and grandsons of the lawmakers of the 18th "National Assembly" were exempted from military service.

What should not be overlooked is that the "president," "prime minister" and the representative of the ruling party were all exempted from military service.

The power is in the hands of those who know neither war nor military affairs after evading the military service, causing the danger of war to increase as today.

This situation is touching off only hatred and discontent among various circles in south Korea. They complain that "only people without power and backing serve in the army."
