Amendment to Criminal Law Promulgated in China
Beijing, March 2 (KCNA) -- An amendment to the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China (8) was adopted and promulgated at the 19th Session of the 11th Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress on Feb. 25.

The amendment has a total of 50 provisions. It calls for incriminating any act of seriously infringing upon the interests of people such as refusing to pay for the work done, pursuant to the policy on handling crimes, the policy for properly combining generosity and strictness. It also specifies the regulations on such crimes as threatening food security, producing and selling quack medicines and polluting environment and resources. It, at the same time, increases the role of the criminal law to protect people's living.

The amendment will take effect from the first of May.
