Traditional Sports Encouraged
Pyongyang, February 28 (KCNA) -- Traditional sports with a long history are gaining popularity among people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Among them are ssirum (Korean wrestling), swinging, seesawing, archery, tug of war, shuttlecock game, top spinning and kite-flying.

Easy to play in any time and in any place, they are congenial to the Korean people's physical constitution and emotion.

Taekwon-Do reflecting the nation's spirit is popular at home and abroad, with local and international tournaments held frequently.

The National Ssirum Tournament for Grand Bull Prize has been held in Pyongyang as an annual event.

Traditional sports games take place in parks, pleasure grounds, industrial establishments, farms and schools throughout the country on the folk holidays.

Men and women enjoy tug of war, Janggi (Korean chess), yut-game, swinging and seesawing, while children like to play kite-flying, top spinning, shuttlecock and rope-skipping.
