Mt. Kumgang Famous for Bio-diversity
Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- Mt. Kumgang in Korea, a world famous mountain, is also widely known for its bio-diversity.

There grow in the mountain indigenous plants of 112 species including Kumgang Stephanandra incisa and Kumgang bellflower, the only genus and species in the world.

These plants account for about a quarter of the indigenous plants found on the Korean Peninsula.

There are not a few animals which are regarded as those on the verge of extinction in Asia and the rest of the world. They include bears, otters, gorals, musk deer, black woodpeckers and Kumgang toads. There grow in the mountain polar alpine plants, multifarious mushrooms and butterflies of various species.

Mt. Kumgang, therefore, can be called a sanctuary of important gene resources.

The bio-diversity in Mt. Kumgang has been formed in the protracted course of evolution.

The organism of every species plays its inherent role under this ecological system there.
